Holiday Programs Focus on Cultural Rituals & Historic Christmas
Traditions
GOLDEN POND, KY--Celebrate
the spirit of the holiday season by getting outdoors in Land Between The
Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area and taking part in a variety of
fun, traditional, and educational programs.
On Saturday, Nov. 26,
from 1-4pm, The Homeplace celebrates Christmas in 1850. Enjoy
the smell of homemade cookies, stockings hung over the fireplace, and
voices raised in song, signifying that Christmas has come to The

holiday recipes, and relax to the sound of old-time Christmas tunes with
the Dixie Volunteers. Later, join in singing 1800’s Christmas
carols as we usher in Santa Claus who will delight everyone with tales
from his past. All ages are welcome at this family event. Homeplace
admission is $4 ages 13 and up; $2 ages 5-12; and free ages 4 and
under.
The Golden Pond
Planetarium offers two holiday programs Wed.-Sun., beginning Nov. 25
through Dec. 23. ‘Tis the Season and Christmas Story will
allow visitors to discover cultural, seasonal, and religious rituals
from around the world. Admission is $4 ages 13 and up; $2 ages 5-12;
free 4 and under. Groups of 10 or more may make reservations by calling

Land Between The Lakes will close nine wildlife refuges to human entry
and all activities including, hunting, fishing, and boating beginning
November 1.
These closures provide undisturbed resting and feeding areas
for waterfowl, shorebirds, and eagles. To serve this purpose, human
activity must be minimized while migratory birds are present. LBL staff
asks for public cooperation with refuge regulations designed to provide
needed sanctuary.
The wildlife refuges include portions of Duncan Bay, Smith
Bay, and Rushing Bay on Kentucky Lake; Fulton and Honker Bays on Lake
Barkley; and Long Creek Refuge at the back of Elbow Bay. These areas
are marked with buoys or signs. Entry is prohibited from Nov. 1 to Mar.
15.
Hematite Lake and Honker Lake, two inland bodies of water,
also carry the Nov. 1 to Mar. 15 closure dates for fishing and boating,
but the hiking trails around these two lakes remain open to hikers
during the refuge period. The western one-third of Energy Lake is
closed as a refuge from Nov. 1 to Mar. 15. All of Energy Lake and Bards
Lake are closed to hunting; however, the eastern two-thirds of Energy
Lake and all of Bards Lake remain open to fishing

Small game
hunting season opens at Land Between The Lakes beginning December 1. All
hunters (age 16 and older) must have an LBL Hunter Use Permit, an
appropriate state license, and observe applicable state laws and LBL
rules regarding hunting zones and safety precautions.
Details concerning dates of the hunting season, bag limits, and other
hunting information can be found in the LBL Small Game and Waterfowl
Hunting Information sheet available at the Golden Pond Visitor Center,
North & South Welcome Stations (closed for the season beginning Dec. 1),
by calling 1-800-LBL-7077 or 270-924-2000, or on the Internet at
www.lbl.org, click on See & Do, then Hunting.
Small game hunters who hunt with dogs should be aware of information
regarding LBL's mid-January trapping season, also included in that
publication.
