New Waterfowling Lands in Tennessee
by Steve McCadams

  www.stevemccadams.com

With most of the high water in West Tennessee receding and colder temperatures arriving, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has some newly acquired wetland areas open for waterfowl hunting.  The size of
these wetland areas range from 200 acres to over 1600 acres.

The name and location of these areas are:

Beason Creek FmHA - Located in Hardin County, North of Hwy. 64 and East of Hwy. 69 off Coffee Landing Road (439 acres).

Beech River Wetland - Located along the Beech River on the Henderson /Decatur County line, South of Hwy. 412 in Darden, TN (273 acres).

Fort Ridge Wetland - Located on the South Fork Forked Deer River in Haywood County, East and West of Hwy. 54 (1512 acres).

Grays Creek Wetland - Located in Hardeman County, East of Hwy. 18 and North of Hatchie River (280 acres).

Harts Mill Wetland - Located on Weakley / Carroll County line on South Fork Obion River off Harts Mill Road (1602 acres).

Spring Creek Wetland - Located in Madison County off Hwy 152 on Middle Fork Forked Deer River (348 acres).

Waterfowl hunting on these areas are from temporary blinds or hides only.  Temporary blinds, hinds and decoys must be removed at the end of shooting hours each day.

The statewide duck season runs until January 31, 2002.  For further information on Tennessee's waterfowl seasons, pick up a 2001-2002 Tennessee Waterfowl Hunting Guide.  Guides are available from outlets that sell
hunting and fishing licenses and all TWRA regional offices.
