TWRA TO PRESENT SPORTFISHING CHANGES FOR 2011

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will hear an update on the proposed 2011 sport fish proposals and an overview of Tennessee’s trout program at its September meeting. The TWRC will meet Sept. 22-23 in Crossville at the Hampton Inn.

The overview of the state's trout program will include the species stocked, number produced, status of the trout hatcheries, and future management plans for various trout fisheries.

Fisheries regulation changes in Region One will be at Gibson County Lake and Brown’s Creek Lake where a new protected slot limit on largemouth bass will be 18-24 inches. One bass in the five fish creel can be over 24 inches.

One change for statewide will require any sportfish slat basket to be checked at least every 72 hours.

The TWRA is soliciting comments for its 2011 sport fishing proposals. This is an opportunity for the public to share ideas and concerns about fishing regulations with TWRA staff.

Public comments will be considered by fisheries managers and may be presented as proposals for regulation changes. Comments may be submitted by mail to: Sport Fish Comments, TWRA, Fisheries Management Division, P.O. 40747, Nashville, TN 37204 or emailed to TWRA.Comment@tn.gov. Please include “Sport Fish Comments” on the subject line of emailed submissions.

This comment period concerning sport fish regulations will be open until Friday, Oct. 15.

The agency was contacted by Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) with an offer to lease approximately 4,100 acres of land in Hardin County as a Wildlife Management Area. The lease agreement would start with the current hunting season for five years.  In July 2013, the Agency will pay a $3 per acre lease fee, for 2 years. In 2015, the Agency and PCA will evaluate the conditions of the lease, and negotiate new lease terms as appropriate
