2007 TENNESSEE TURKEY HARVEST
by Steve McCadams

May 18th, 2007

Tennessee turkey hunters finished the season last Sunday with a total harvest of 30,811 for the year, according to TWRA data. Last year’s harvest was 34,277.

The final weekend of season did not see much increase in the overall harvest total.

The season got off to a pretty good start but a combination of factors teamed up to add more challenges for Volunteer State hunters this season. As a result, this year’s harvest will fall short of expectations.

Neighboring Missouri is one of the more popular states in the country when it comes to turkey hunting. Like Tennessee, hunters there also saw a reduction in their year’s turkey harvest.

Hunters there shot 44,949 turkeys during the regular spring turkey season April 16 through May 6. Last year's figure was 51,018.
That is an 11 percent decrease from last year's figure of 54,712. The record spring harvest in the Show Me State occurred in 2004, when hunters killed 60,744 turkeys in the youth and regular seasons combined.
