Week of September 18th
Fishing this week has been slow but that's about
to change. The approaching cool front should stimulate activity for the
bass and crappie anglers.
Elevation this week in the Paris Landing area was in the 356
range. That's up a few inches from last week's report, thanks to
some much needed rain in the area.
Surface temperatures have been stubborn to cool. Readings
were in the 79 to 83 degree range.
Crappie have been sluggish with several small fish being
taken in the
9 to 12 foot depths. Even anglers working the main lake drop-offs have
reported catching a lot of small fish. Look for improvement this next
week as cooler surface readings bring some of the larger fish to an
active mode. Shad have been moving up lately so the stage is set for
some good fishing this next week.
Bass are being taken on the gravel banks in the early
morning and late
afternoon periods. There's some grassbeds producing too along the main
river islands. Anglers casting worms, spinnerbaits and some topwater
plugs along the edges of the grassbeds have encountered several small
bass.
A few white bass are lingering around on the ledges for
those who like
to troll deep diving crankbaits with small spinner attached.
Both bass and crappie anglers should see an improvement this next
week, assuming those cool spells that all the weathermen are talking
about really get here. And you know the weather buys wouldn't say it if
it wasn't so!
