REFUGE AREAS REOPEN TO FISHING/BOATING ACCESS

March 14th, 2008

Many of the roads and closed bays at the Tennessee and Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge will be reopened as of Sunday, March 16th.  These areas have been closed during the winter to lessen disturbance to wintering waterfowl on both these refuges.

Locally, areas of the Big Sandy unit which will reopen to boating and fishing access will be Swamp Creek and bays west of Sulphur Well Island, often referred to as “The Meadows”. Also, over on the Big Sandy peninsula the area of Bennett’s Creek will reopen as well.

Several bays in LBL which have been closed off will also reopen on the same date.

For further information contact the refuge office in Paris at 642-2091.

Steve McCadams is a professional hunting and fishing guide here in the Paris Landing area. He has also contributed many outdoor oriented articles to various national publications.
