COYOTE HUNT RESULTS

Local hunters did well in the recent Big Dog Predator Hunt, which had 67 teams entered in the competition. Several teams ventured to the area from out of state to participate in the annual coyote hunt.

Teams were allowed three coyotes and local hunters Jimmy Jackson and Shane Koch had quite a day hunting that turned into a hefty payback. The duo took home $2,800 in prize money!

Their three coyotes weighing 111.4 pounds bested the field, plus they won second and third place in the Big Dog weights. Second place team overall went to Jason Wade and Ryan Hamlin of Paris with a three coyote limit weighing 105 pounds.

Third place went to Timothy Allmon and Will Scruggs with three coyotes weighing 94 pounds followed by Shannon Bethune and Russ Buffington’s limit weighing 86.6 pounds.

The biggest coyote of the day was taken by the team of Kevin Bickle and Randy Barger of Big Sandy for one weighing 39.2 pounds. Small dog paid out $250 and went to Kenneth Roberts and Chris Whitten of Springville for one weighing 24.8 pounds.

“We had another good turnout and a very success hunt with a good crowd showing up at the weigh-in at Holley Fork Shooting Complex,” said hunt spokesman Randall Bowden. “It was tough hunting conditions due to a windy day but still the hunters did well.”

BIG DOG PREDATOR HUNT DEADLINE

The Big Dog Predator Hunt returns to Henry County on February 14 but those interested in participating are reminded of the January 31 entry deadline.

Entry fee is $100 per team and check-in this year will be held at Holly Fork Shooting Complex. Payback will be $2,000 for the winning team and $1,000 for the biggest coyote. Paybacks will also be awarded in the amount of $500 for second place; $300 for third place; and $200 for fourth place in both categories.

Teams are allowed to bring in three coyotes, one fox and one bobcat. For additional information on the upcoming hunt contact Bowden at 731-695-2412.
