by

Results from last Saturday’s
second annual Paul Steele Memorial Bass Tournament indicate some 77 boats
entered the competition to fight hot weather, boat traffic, and bass. It
was a good turnout under the holiday conditions and a tip of the hat to
the Two Rivers Bass Club for raising some $2,500 for the Paris-Henry
County Helping Hands on behalf of the late angler.
Taking top honors with a very impressive stringer of bass was the team of
Shawn Penn and Terry Bolten of Paducah, KY. They boated a 5-bass limit
tipping the scales at 22.05 pounds and earning them $2,000. Their limit
consisted of the tournament’s big bass in a 5.48 pound chunk that beat out
second big fish by a mere one-hundredths of a pound.
Second place went to team of David Locke and David Jones o Grand Rivers,
KY. They boated a limit weighing 19.92 pounds including the second big
fish of the event in a 5.47-pound largemouth. Second place earned $1,000.
Third place went to Tony Callus and Gerald Sanders of Jackson for a limit
weighing 17.37 pounds. They earned $325. Local anglers making the payout
were David and Andy Tyler in seventh place with a 15-pound plus stringer
and Tommy Ellis and Donnie Williams in ninth place with a 15-pound plus
stringer. Each team earned $200.
Roger “retired” Buffington and Mike “find a partner that’s catching them”
Ward placed 20th but earned $600 in a slotted payout.
