Kentucky Lake Fishing Report for:

November 22nd, 2002

Fall crappie continue to keep anglers busy this week on Kentucky Lake. Action is still good and overall weather conditions have been favorable.

Observed lake elevation at midweek in the Paris Landing area saw slightly higher readings compared to one week ago. Lake stages were in the 355.5 range and falling slowly after several days of rising lake levels.

Lake stages were about the same at both Kentucky Dam and New Johnsonville at midweek. Both areas were showing a reading of 355.4 and falling slowly.

Surface temperatures were resting in the 46-49 degree range but look for a significant drop this weekend and into next week as colder weather is in the forecast.

Watercolor is clear in most of the Tennessee River and mouth of Big Sandy.

Some action had increased for crappie anglers in the 11 to 14 foot zones earlier this week. Rising lake levels apparently sent some fish into secondary flats and bays, as shad activity there was visible all week.

A few good stringers were reported from the West Sandy area and near Mansard Island.

Success was also coming from the mouth of Big Sandy on main lake drop-offs.

Deeper ledges continue to produce as anglers work the breaks in search of stumps and brush.

Jigs in the chartreuse with red metal flake, red and chartreuse, purple and chartreuse, and lime colors were producing. Anglers are vertical jigging tube skirted jigs with unpainted lead heads in the 1/8 to ¼ ounce size.

Live minnows were also working as anglers use the double hook bottom bumping rigs in 18 to 22 foot zones.

Some bass action is still underway as anglers toss crankbaits along roadbeds and sloping points on the main lake. Carolina rigged lizards and tube jigs were working too.

A few nice smallmouth are still hitting as anglers use finesse baits on main lake ledges.

Look for fall crappie action to continue as anglers pick their days and dodge the cold and windy ones.
