Report for November 18th, 2000
This week's fishing report on Kentucky Lake in the Paris Landing
area continues to see productive outings for crappie anglers.
Cooler weather and some bone chilling winds did slow things down
for a few days however. Surface temperatures have cooled significantly
since last week as a few nights saw temperatures dip below freezing with
the highs some days barely reaching the 50 degree mark.
Surface temperatures are in the 53 to 56 degree range this week.
Observed lake elevation is 355.1. Lake levels were rising last weekend
but began falling a few inches on Monday and Tuesday. Look for slow fall
to continue this week and expect to see readings getting back near the
winter pool elevation.
Crappie were being found in 10 to 13 foot depths earlier in the
week, along with some reports of success from the 18 to 22 foot zones.
The cooler water will likely send some of the shallow crappie back
deeper as the shad move.
Jigs in the red/chartreuse, pink/chartreuse, grape/ chartreuse
combos were accounting from some popular choices. Live minnows are still
producing as well.
Techniques of tightlining and bumping bottom on the main lake
ledges where submerged stumps, brushpiles and stakebeds can be found are
producing. Look for action to improve this week after the cold fronts
pass through and stable weather and a warming trend returns.
Bass action has been slower this week due to the cold fronts. The
cold and clear days with the high pressures has curtailed action,
especially in the shallow depths.
Some anglers reported finding a few fish taking a jig and pig
combo, along with some spinnerbait and crankbait action around brush and
logs.
Things should improve for both crappie and bass anglers once the
cold fronts pass and a warming trend returns.
