Kentucky Lake Fishing Report
Brought to you by: Fishtale Lodge

Report for November 16th, 2001

How about this fall weather? Fishermen have been reaping the benefits of an extended fall where above average temperatures and light winds have made for excellent fishing conditions.
No one in the angling fraternity is complaining either. A lot of
crappie, bass, and catfish anglers have been testing the water and having successful outings.
Crappie are hitting good with several nice stringers being caught in 7 to 9 foot depths. The shallow stakebeds and brushpiles are producing some good size fish too.
There's still some fish coming from deep ledges in the 15 to 20 foot zones but it appears a lot of fish have moved up this past week into shallow areas where shad populations are abundant.
Vertical presentations of jigs are working well. Such colors as grape and pearl, red and chartreuse, chartreuse with red metal flake, are just a few that have appealed. Live shiner minnows are also still working.
Surface temperatures have been in the  57 to 61 degree range this week. Water levels in the Paris Landing area have been falling slowly. Observed lake elevation was in the 354.9 range.
Bass are still running the gravel banks and rock points where anglers have been taking them on shad colored crankbaits. Also, some logs and exposed crappie beds and stumps have yielded decent strikes as anglers toss spinnerbaits and shallow running crankbaits.
Some smallmouth are still taking twister tail grubs and hair jigs fished on light spinning tackle. Rock points and rip-rap areas are producing some spotted bass too.
Catfish are coming from the main river ledges where current is
stimulating action from some big blues. And, some deeper holes are holding some big fish too while shallow areas are producing some channel catfish.
Fall is a good catfish time but often overlooked by many anglers.     Better get out there and take advantage of this beautiful weather. It won't last forever you know!
