Kentucky Lake Fishing Report for:
November 15th, 2002
High winds dominated the fishing scene last weekend and some cool
weather began the week for anglers on Kentucky Lake.
By midweek, however, the breeze had settled down and action had
improved for crappie anglers as a southwest wind warmed things up.
Crappie action continues to hold up for anglers working midrange
brush piles and stake beds in the Pleasant View section of West Sandy
and part of Big Sandy around Mansard Island area.
Depths of 6 to 12 feet have produced some decent crappie this week
in those areas while the mouth of Big Sandy and throughout the Paris
Landing area have seen fish relating to deeper depths.
Several fish are still holding on the deep sides of ledges in 17 to
22 foot zones. Finding structure on the deep side of the break or
drop-off seems to be the key. Live minnows and jigs in the pearl and
chartreuse or purple and green color combinations have paid off.
Surface temperatures have cooled into the 48 to 51 degree range this
week. Look for somewhat cooler conditions by this weekend as cold nights
will have some effect.
Observed lake elevation in the New Johnsonville area is 355.4 and
falling. At Kentucky Dam reading were lower and in the 354.4 range.
Some bass action was underway as the fish are still finding shad on
shallow flats and back in the bays.
Tossing a Carolina rigged worm or lizard, along with crankbaits and
various shad colored jerk baits is producing some nice fish.
A few smallmouth are still showing up too. Working those deep
ledges, riprap levees, and main lake points with small, finesse baits is
paying off.
Look for falling lake levels to continue this week as the reservoir
heads back to winter pool elevation.
