Last Saturday’s Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Music City Division bass tournament on Kentucky Lake out of Paris Landing State Park saw Ashley Hayes of Rockvale, TN take the top spot with a five fish limit weighing 20 pounds, 13 ounces. The victory earned Hayes $2,986 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Wheeler Lake Regional Championship in Decatur, Ala., Oct. 9-11, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck. Hayes caught his fish on a ¾-ounce Strike King football-head jig near the mouth of the Big Sandy River. He also landed a 6 pound, 9 ounce largemouth for big bass of the day, earning him an additional $450. Paris bass angler Matt Reagan had a good day and landed a limit weighing 19 pounds, 5 ounces to take third place, which earned him a check for $1,464. Credit should also be given to Ricky Brannum of Owensboro, KY who earned $1,757 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 21 pounds, 6 ounces that he caught fishing ledges on a Carolina-rigged lizard.
