The Outdoor Channel has announced that this year's prestigious Golden Moose Award, the People's Choice Hunting Show of the Year, has been won by Ted and Shemane Nugent for the production of TED NUGENT SPIRIT OF THE WILD TV.

Produced and edited by the Nugent's SpiritWild Productions, the people have overwhelmingly lauded the program's believablity and down to earth connection as presented by the personality and passion of Ted's hands-on, entertaining hunting lifestyle.

Anglers are reminded that some local bays that had been closed off by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service within the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge have reopened as of last Sunday.

The areas of Swamp Creek, Bennett and Robbin’s Creeks, and the Elkhorn basin are now open to anglers and boaters. Many of these areas are popular crappie and bass fishing venues during the prespawn phases so anglers are glad to be able to fish these waters.

Each fall the areas are closed off to boat traffic and road access so as to provide refuge areas for wintering waterfowl.

Last Saturday’s Jake’s Day, hosted by the local National Wild Turkey Federation chapter, was a huge success. Some 100 kids participated in a variety of outdoor related activities, partaking of the beautiful weather, good food, and various demonstrations by several instructors.

A tip of the hat to all those agencies and individuals who helped introduce the kids to the great outdoors.

Tennessee Spring Wild Turkey Hunting Regulations 2003 are now available, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

Listed in the regulations are season dates and hunting regulations for both statewide and wildlife management areas.  The 2003 statewide season is March 29 through May 6, 2003.  The Youth-Only hunt day will be May 10.  The statewide bag limit for the 2003 season did not change.  On statewide hunts, a hunter may take one bearded turkey per day, not to exceed three for the season.

On Wildlife Management Area (WMA) hunts, the limit will be one bearded bird per hunt, not to exceed two birds for the year.  However, the total limit for the season is still four birds.  This means if a hunter takes three birds during the statewide season, the fourth turkey will need to be harvested from certain Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs).

The Tennessee Spring Wild Turkey Hunting Regulations 2003 are available at all TWRA Regional Offices and other outlets that sell hunting and fishing licenses.
