Prime Hunting Lease Available
Looking for some hunting
land. Steve McCadams has recently purchased some prime hunting grounds
near Kenton, Tn. It's well suited for a variety of game, especially ducks.
Here's what Steve had to
say about this property:
Recently I purchased a
150-acre farm in the Obion River bottom on the middle fork near Kenton,
TN. The farm is 90 percent row crop with two fields now in corn, which
will be flooded. More than a mile of levee is already in place, complete
with culverts and water control structures.
Located slightly north of where the middle and south fork of the Obion
come together, one field already has a nice, six-man pit in place and
ready to hunt. The farmer left quite a bit of corn in the field to provide
waterfowl food this year. The pit can be accessed by four-wheeler so no
boats/motors are needed.
The farm is adjacent to the river and centrally located in a key
waterfowl migration route between the state refuges of Maness Swamp and
Hop-In. It has a large tract of bottomland hardwoods adjacent to it and
bordered by a TWRA wildlife management area. Several thousands ducks and
geese use the bottoms and stage in the nearby refuges each winter. The
area is a corridor for waterfowl moving from the Mississippi River to the
Tennessee River so the movement would allow daily hunting of the area.
Two major fields, separated by a large drainage ditch, offer prime
hunting. While I will still maintain my hunting operation on the Tennessee
River, I also plan to hunt one of the fields on the farm. MY PRESENT
INTENTION IS TO LEASE A PORTION OF THE FARM THIS SEASON.
A watershed of several hundred acres drains into the farm via a series
of ditches, which are designed for diversion via spillways into the
fields. Flooding it should be easy. I looked it over several times, both
from the ground and air, and based on my 35-plus years of waterfowling,
plus the advice of some other veteran waterfowlers familiar with the
layout and area, I chose to make the purchase.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in a private lease with
high quality hunting that's free of crowds and competition, please let me
know and I will be glad to have them visit the farm with me and see, first
hand, what it looks like.
Needless to say, I am very impressed with the area and the specific
location of this farm as to its hunting potential. It also has a lot of
deer and turkey using it.
