Report for March 13th, 2001
Crappie fishing is good right now on Kentucky Lake
with some hefty stringers being taken from 18 to 24 foot depths in the
Paris Landing area. Working the deep sides of the ledges in the main
lake where stumps and brush can be found is the key.
Minnows are paying off well as are jigs. And, a lot of anglers are
tipping jigs with minnows for increased success.
Such colors as chartreuse, and red/chartreuse, black/chartreuse
and pink/chartreuse combos in the tube skirts are producing good.
Stained water has been the norm this last week in the Paris Landing area
and over on the Tennessee River.
Lake elevation is in the 354.2 range and surface temps were in the
46 to 48 degree range last week but have warmed to 52 degrees on some of
the warm days.
The lake was falling for several days but has now stabilized and
beginning to clear. Some success has been reported in the upper Big
Sandy basin around Springville pumphouse and West Sandy, as well as the
Country Junction area, from anglers finding fish in 4 to 10 foot zones.
Bass action has improved as anglers are finding them hitting jig
and pig combos in the black and blue color. Some fish are also hitting
crankbaits in the shad colored or crawfish imitations.
Wind continues to be a factor but there have been some nice days
lately and anglers have had good fishing when the weather is anywhere
near normal.......
