Land Between the Lakes Eagles
by Steve McCadams

Good news for bald eagles at Land Between the Lakes. Biologists there have identified 11 active nests. The annual eagle nest census was taken on March 14. Last year, 12 nests produced young and nine produced young in 1999.

"This indicates our resident bald eagle population continues to thrive, and bodes well for the species continued recovery in the region," said LBL Wildlife Biologist Steve Bloemer.

LBL serves as a winter home to some 150 migratory bald eagles, and state and federal wildlife officials have been working to bring a resident population back to the region since the 1980s.

Active eagle nests have been seen in both the Tennessee and Kentucky portions of LBL already this year.
