Last week’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic held on Pickwick and Wilson reservoirs, located upstream here on the Tennessee River, saw some enormous stringers of catfish taken.

In the two-day event some 248 anglers weighed in more than 12,000 pounds of catfish!

Taking first place was the team of Gregg Adkins and Scott Dole of Chillicothe, Ohio who weighed in a record breaking two day total of twelve fish weighing 504.75 pounds. The team also had big fish of the event with a 76.85 pound blue catfish.

In an interview Gregg and Scott said, “We had located these fish on Pickwick Lake in practice when we caught a 70 pound fish on Tuesday”. “There was a tree in the water that was creating a current break with baitfish and the big fish coming in to feed”. “It was a no brainer”, said Gregg and Scott. At the Saturday night awards banquet Gregg and Scott were awarded the keys to a new Polar Kraft  King Kat boat with a Suzuki 90 HP 4-stroke motor, Minn Kota trolling motor, Hummingbird locater along with $2,000.00 in cash and championship cups. For capturing big fish of the event the team received plaque from McCoy Fishing Live and a gift certificate for $1,000.00 from Cabelas.
