Gilbertsville, Ky. (July 1,
2002) - Mike Terry of Obion, Tenn., topped 72 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League
competitors Saturday on Kentucky Lake with five bass weighing 17 pounds,
12 ounces. The catch earned him $2,531 and 200 points in the Boater
Division.
Terry caught his limit on a deep-diving blue and chartreuse crankbait. The
catch topped second-place boater Ray Barga of Gilbertsville, Ky., by 2
ounces. Barga finished the one-day tournament with a five-bass catch
weighing 17 pounds, 10 ounces worth $1,266 and also received a $500 bonus
from Ranger Boats as the highest finishing participant in the Ranger Cup
incentive program.
Jeremy Conrad of New Johnsonville, Tenn. (five bass, 15 pounds, 1 ounce,

ounces, $557) rounded out the top five boaters.
Steve Mull of Lebanon, Tenn., earned boater big bass honors and $360 with
a 5-pound, 11-ounce bass that he caught by flipping a 10-inch red worm in
about 3 feet of water. He finished in 28th place overall thanks to the one
bass.
Chuck Rounds of Benton, Ky., claimed first place and $1,178 in the
68-competitor Co-angler Division with five bass weighing 18 pounds, 3
ounces. The catch, which was 7 ounces heavier than the Boater Division
winner, enabled Rounds to surpass second-place co-angler Kyle Frey of
Hendersonville, Tenn., by 8 pounds, 11 ounces. Rounds caught his limit
using a 12-inch red and green flake worm in 10 to 12 feet of water. Frey
finished with a four-bass catch weighing 9 pounds, 8 ounces worth $589.
Chad Lannom of Mt. Juliet, Tenn. (three bass, 8 pounds, 15 ounces, $353);
Robert Holton of Murfreesboro, Tenn. (three bass, 8 pounds, 13 ounces,
$283); and Jon Lessard of Tullahoma, Tenn., (two bass, 8 pounds, 10
ounces, $259) rounded out the top five co-anglers. Lessard also earned big
bass honors and $168 in his division with a 6-pound, 7-ounce bass that he
caught using a chartreuse buzzbait.
Overall, 11 five-bass limits were caught during the tournament.
The Wal-Mart BFL will visit Old Hickory Lake for the Music City Division's
season finale, a two-day Super Tournament, Sept. 21-22. The boater with
the most points after the Super Tournament will be declared the Yamaha "Be
the Best" Points Leader and awarded $1,000. The co-angler amassing the
most points by the end of the season will receive $500.
The top 30 Music City Division boaters and co-anglers will advance to
regional competition presented by BC Powder Oct. 29-Nov. 2 on Wheeler Lake
near Rogersville, Ala., where they will go up against top competitors from
