Williams Lake right in the city limits of Paris will host one of the popular World Biggest Fish Fry events this week. It’s the return of the annual Junior Fishing Rodeo where kids can have a big time and win valuable prizes. This year’s event gets underway at high noon on Saturday and will culminate around 3 PM. The rodeo is free and open to both boys and girls age 12 and under. No preregistration is required but kids are asked to arrive early at the lake where the Henry County Jaycees will be on hand with registration tables prior to the start of the rodeo. Prizes will be awarded for the girl and boy catching the most and biggest fish in four separate age groups. All prizes will be fishing related items. Major sponsors of this year’s Junior Fishing Rodeo are Hulmes Sporting Goods of Paris and Strike King Lure Company in Memphis, represented by Crispin Powley of Paris who will be on hand to help with scoring. “We’ve got a special treat for the young anglers this year as the lake will be stocked with catfish a few days prior to the rodeo thanks to TWRA who will be dumping a load of hungry catfish for the kids to catch,” said rodeo spokesman and Jaycee member David Stone. “Our goal is to get kids hooked on fishing and the great outdoors,” said World’s Biggest Fish Fry General Manager Kreg Kyle, when speaking of the kids’ fishing rodeo. “We all know if our kids are fishing and hunting we won't be out hunting for them.” Stop by your local bait and tackle shop and get those future fishermen rigged and ready to do battle with those hungry fish. It’s a good idea to stock up on the terminal tackle and make sure they have the right bait to fool ole’ whiskers into biting. Here’s hoping you take time to share a few hours with that youngster and introduce them to the great sport of fishing. And don’t forget to bring that camera!
