FISHING
LURE SELLS FOR TOP DOLLAR How much would you pay for a good fishing lure? Now be truthful and tell me if you’d shell out over $100,000 for one little lure to compliment your collection. Or, do you really have room in the ole’ tackle box for another treble hook resident? Back in November someone paid $101,200 for a 1859 Haskell Minnow. The Haskell Minnow baits were produced by gunsmith Riley Haskell of Painsville, OH. This particular bait was auctioned by Lang’s Sporting Collectables and is a 10-inch copy of this sought after lure. A few years ago a smaller copy sold for a mere $23,000. After this, several others were found and the going price was about $9,500. At the same auction as the $100,000-plus lure, a smaller version sold for $19,000. The Haskell Minnow is a hollow bodied copper minnow. The 10-inch version is very rare; In fact, this may be the only one known. A total of about fifteen Haskell Minnows are known to exist. The price paid is thought to be the highest ever paid for one piece of fishing tackle! Steve McCadams |
