Ducks Unlimited Leads the Way

Officials from Memphis
based Ducks Unlimited, the nation's premiere wetlands and waterfowl
conservation group, reported record levels of both members and funds
raised to support conservation during the past fiscal year.
During the group's annual convention in San Antonio, DU President Dr. L.J.
Mayeux, of Marksville, LA, announced that DU volunteers and staff had
raised more than $175 million for habitat conservation work in Fiscal Year
2001, which ended on February 28, 2001.
Dr. Mayeux also announced
that the group now counts more than 757,000 people as members of DU. Both
are all-time highs in the organization's 64-year history.
Ducks Unlimited's biologists and engineers used the funds raised during
Fiscal Year 2001 to protect, restore, and enhance over 331,000 acres of
wildlife habitat within the United States.
Combined with acreage conserved by its international affiliates-DU Canada
and DU Mexico-the people of Ducks Unlimited were directly responsible for
conserving more than half a million acres of critical wildlife habitat
across North America last year.
DU also reached another important milestone last fiscal
year-spending a full 87 percent of its revenue directly on habitat
conservation projects and programs.
