Report for December 15th, 2000
Crappie continue to bite for anglers working the
deep ledges and dropoffs of Kentucky Lake. The most productive depth
range seems to be the 18 to 22 foot zones.
Double hook bottom bumping rigs armed with live shiner minnows or
jigs are producing well. Also jigs vertical fished in and around
submerged stumps and brush continue to appeal.
Effective color combinations have been white/lime, red/chartreuse,
black/Chartreuse, etc....
Some anglers are tipping jigs with minnows to entice the finicky
fish into striking.
Wind seems to be the culprit as anglers are working the main lake
areas that are vulnerable to whitecaps. Cooler weather has also played a
role lately as winter conditions have played havoc with a few fishing
days this week.
Lake elevation in the Paris Landing area is at or near the winter
pool mark of 354. Surface temperatures are in the mid to upper 30's.
Look for crappie to continue hitting in the deeper zones of the
reservoir as long as cold weather and low surface temperatures prevail.
Not much success reported from sauger fishermen in the New
Johnsonville and Duck River areas as of yet. A few scattered reports of
success have come in from Pickwick tailrace.
Bass fishing continues to be relatively slow overall due to the
colder conditions.
