Supplementary Information

Waterfowl Activity: Highest numbers of waterfowl were observed in Upper Pool 4 (60%) and Elk Reservoir (20%). At this time these two impoundments have the greatest variety of habitats available. Deep water to shallow flooded moist soils and cover from winds which were gusting between 10 and 20 mph on the day of the survey.

Hunting Pressure and Success: No hunt in progress.

Weather: Local weather was warm with daytime highs between 65 and 70. However, the refuge experienced two mornings of hard frosts. Rainfall has been sparse since October 13th. Impoundments totally dependent on rainfall are beginning to dry up again.

Habitat: Impoundments where the refuge is able to control the water levels bringing the water level up slow and steady seem to be attracting the majority of the waterfowl. One observation was made of approximately 200 Canada geese sitting in a stripped corn field at Upper Pool 4.
