Supplementary Information

Waterfowl Activity: Upper Pool 4 (56%) and Elk Reservoir (29%) are still accounting for the majority (85%) of the waterfowl recorded on the survey. Part of the reason for this distribution pattern is the Pool 7 area and Lower Pool 4 are still low on water and don’t have any shallow water yet.

Hunting Pressure and Success:

Weather: This week’s weather was a mixed bag. Around mid-week we had some daytime highs above 70. Thursday morning we hit a low of 25. Saturday we received our first good rain in about 28 days. Rain from early morning to mid afternoon. Also, we had strong winds with gusts between 30 - 40 mph.

Habitat: I think Upper Pool 4 is holding high percentage of ducks because water is still shallow enough to provide access to submerged aquatic vegetation and associated macro invertebrates. Geese are hanging out in the soybean fields during morning and afternoon hours. Probably easy pickings on left over soybeans and unsprouted winter wheat seed.
