CRAPPIE USA CLASSIC TOURNAMENT

October 6th, 2006

This past weekend Crappie USA held the 2006 Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic at Sheffield, Alabama where nearly 400 anglers from 22 states competed for a purse of $175,000.00. This was one of the most exciting classic finishes in the history of Crappie USA with less than one half pound deciding the battle for first place in the semi-pro division.

Taking first place was the team of Ronnie Capps and Steve Coleman of Tiptonville, TN with a 2 day total weight of 22.84 pounds. Ronnie and Steve were fishing brush tops where these fish were hidden. “It was a very unique tournament”, said Ronnie Capps. “You had to put the bait in a very small spot just above these fish to get a bite. We lost several fish trying to get them out of the brush tops”.

Second place went to the McKenzie, TN team of Tim Ridley and Lynn Gilliam with a weight of 22.45 pounds. Tim and Lynn took home a check for $10,000.00 for second place.

Ninth place went to Steve Ferguson of Puryear, TN and Ben Blakely of Murray, KY with 15.57 pounds. For ninth place Steve and Ben received $600.00.
