Several young shooters from the Henry County Scholastic Clay Target Program will advance from state to national levels of competition thanks to their high scores last weekend at the state shoot in Nashville at the Tennessee State Sporting Clays Complex. Some 55 kids from this area participated last weekend and shot their way to the Grand American Trap and Skeet Shoot in August at Sparta, IL. “We had several kids do well and advanced to the Grand and that’s says something about their shooting ability as over 1,000 youngsters were there from across the state” said local SCTP spokesman Tommy Crane. “On Friday morning Blake Triplett of Puryear, along with Drake Williams and Hunter Hodge of Paris placed third in the Junior Varsity Division of skeet to advance.” “Then, that afternoon Drake Williams, Blake Triplett and Ross Paschall of Puryear won the Junior Varsity for sporting clays. Other Paris teams qualifying for advancement were Jensen Smith, Joey Williams, and Hunter Hodge of Paris who placed third, along with the fourth place team of Austin Jones, Ben Edwards, and Chris Schoolfield.” “One of the highlights of the day was Blake Triplett's victory in the Varsity Division for trap shooting,” continued Crane. “Both Blake and Jensen Smith shot a hundred straight but in the shoot off it was Blake who earned the highest overall score.” Also advancing to the Grand from the Varsity Division for trap will be Blake Triplett, Drake Williams, Jensen Smith, Joey Williams, and Kyle Parrish from Puryear. William Boyd made the third place team for the rookie division. Overall, Henry County shooters fared well and will now prepare to compete against the nation’s best when they venture to Sparta, IL later this summer. Congratulations to the kids and coaches for those long hours at the range, not to mention those parents and grandparents doing chauffer duties and ammo supply!
