Officer Clay Riley wins Boating Award
by Steve McCadams

Henry County TWRA Wildlife Officer Clay Riley, representing Tennessee's Region I, Area 11, was recently presented a recognition award for the Region I Boating Officer of the Year for 2000. Riley was selected for his excellent track record in boating safety enforcement, investigations, and information and education.

Last year Officer Riley checked 859 boats, assisted in 5 boating under the influence arrests, investigated 2 fatal boating accidents, a serious injury accident, and an accident involving a commercial barge.

"Riley was one of the first officers to become heavily involved in the marine sanitation issue and has set precedence for the enforcement of marine sanitation throughout the state," said Ed Carter, TWRA's Chief Boating Officer. "Riley continues to keep an excellent rapport with local marina operators, U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and marine dealers in his area.

His heavy involvement in boating safety education in the area and public relations in addition to everything else has given the TWRA Boating Division pleasure to give Riley this prestigious Regional award."

He accepted the award at the recent TWRA Commission meeting held at Paris Landing State Park.
