"Casting for a Cure" Honorary Hostess Alex Bell is the Honorary Hostess for this year's "Casting for a Cure" kids fishing rodeo at Carroll Lake. Alex is 13 years old and from McKenzie. She has had quite a turmoil with leukemia for several years now. She will receive a bone marrow transplant in September after doctors found her a matching donor in Germany! As you could only imagine, she has had quite a story and is very much an inspiration to other kids who might also be facing the hurdles of this disease. It is estimated that 8,600 children under the age of 15 in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer in 2001. Because of significant advances in therapy, 75% of these children will survive 5 years or more, an increase of almost 40% since 1973. Please keep Alex in your prayers and do your part to help stop this terrible disease. Steve McCadams has always had a soft spot for kids and his "Casting for a Cure" kids fishing rodeo is his way to introduce kids to the outdoors as well as raise money for the American Cancer Society. This fishing rodeo has a little more meaning to Steve. He is also a cancer survivor, so he knows how much his efforts mean to the people struggling with this disease. Please if you get the chance bring your kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, neighbor's kids or any others out to help raise money for this worthwhile cause. Even if you can't make it, your donations are appreciated. For further information on donations contact Steve McCadams at 731-642-0360 or email him at stevemc@aeneas.net.
Remember, kids are our most precious resource!
