KENTUCKY LAKE LUNKER
While Adam is relatively new to tournament fishing, his learning curve has been rather steep. Traveling around volunteering at boat shows and other fishing related events, he pried loose more than a little information from pro anglers and tournament organizers. He's now a competitor in the BFL fishing series and from his recent success, it looks like he'll do pretty well. Let's look at Adam's methods for bringing in this big stringer of Kentucky Lake bass. Adam spent his time focusing on primary and secondary points off the main channel. He said the key for him was finding chunk rock banks, and as he suspected, the bass were staging in these areas. Fishing in the 1-4 feet range and in the 8-10 foot range he boated his limit of 5 keepers by 9:30. The bait he used was a rapala DT10 in both shad and crawdad colors. Then around 10:00 he hooked into the 9+ pounder on the crawdad crankbait in just two feet of water. That fish helped him bring in a winning stringer of 20.23 lbs. Beating the second place team by almost 4 pounds. While this fish was his biggest ever and certainly his biggest on Kentucky Lake, he had caught his second biggest Kentucky Lake bass (a 6 pounder) just two days earlier while practicing for the tournament. That fish was in 1 foot of water. Not a bad week by anybody's standards. We'd just like to day congratulations to Adam. Fish like that are few and far between on any lake. But, this one was released in the Paris Landing harbor, so we know there's at least one monster still out there. From the reports we've gotten so far this year, the largemouth fishing has really made a comeback. Tournament weights and independent reports are both pointing towards some great bassin opportunities for the upcoming spawn and beyond. Get out there if you can and maybe we'll be doing an article on your 9 pounder next.
