April 18th 2008

Last Friday morning’s winners in the weekly bass tournament out of Paris Landing were Leon Rogers and Roger Buffington with 13.75 pounds. It was another cool and windy morning with gusts exceeding 20 miles per hour so it was tough on anglers that day.

Adam Craig of Buchanan had a good day bass fishing last Saturday and placed third in the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League’s LBL division tournament held on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes. His five fish limit weighing 19.08 pounds earned him $1,461.

Randy Conkwright of Nicholasville, Ky., won the tournament with a five-bass catch weighing 20 pounds, 3 ounces. The victory earned Conkwright $4,380 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Cherokee Lake Regional Championship in October.

Focusing on the Blood River area, Conkwright threw a ½-ounce green-pumpkin jig along the banks and in the channel to catch his fish.

Henry County anglers faring well in last week’s Crappie USA tournament on Pickwick Lake were Ralph Dillard and Scott Watson of Paris weighing in a total of 11.09 pounds and taking home $625.00. Ralph and Scott were vertical jigging glow jigs with pink heads over man made beds to win the amateur division.

The Dillard/Scott team also won the Kentucky Lake event held here two weeks ago.

Other anglers doing well were the team of Steve Ferguson of Puryear and Richard Williams of Paris who  tied for fourth place with a Georgia team with a weight of 11.54 pounds.

Tim and Pam Ridley of McKenzie placed third in the pro division and also had second big fish of the event with a 2.5-pound slab. They earned more than $700 for the day.
