This year's annual APSU benefit bass tournament out of Paris Landing State Park had 255 boats entered. It was another resounding success with over $29,000 raised for APSU’s athletic department.

In near-perfect weather conditions at Kentucky Lake, David Fields and John Morgan, of Murray, Ky., were the winners of the 14th annual tournament with a five-bass limit weighing 24.36 pounds to take the $4,000 first-place prize. Fields and Morgan also won the 2007 tournament.

Mark Barrett and Bruce Parker, of New Concord earned $400 after finishing fifth with a five-bass limit weighing 19.62 pounds. Barrett, meanwhile, also won the big bass award with a 6.12-pound largemouth to earn an additional $1,446.

Meanwhile, Joel Rumsey, of Waverly, was the Grand Door Prize winner of a 150hp Mercury outboard motor valued at $13,600. Randy Huffstetler, of Greenfield, won the Motor Guide trolling motor valued at $850.

Next year’s event has already been scheduled for May 9, 2009.
